Interview with Newt Gingrich

The World of Odd Bodkins.

AKA Dan ÓNéill.

ODD BODKINS ON Soñar. Vol. 3 No. 2

Personal attack ads In America are as old as the television medium that delivers them. Poll after poll reveals that the majority of the American public find these ads objectionable and distasteful. Be that as it may, there is no likelihood that they are about to cease anytime soon. The simple logic of this is that despite what Joe Public may tell pollsters, political attack ads work, regardless of how outrageously they may insult the intelligence of voters and challenge the outer limits of truthfulness. Frequently claims and statements border the bizarre.

"Massachusetts moderate Mitt Romney: he'll say anything to win. Anything," the narrator in the video said. "And just like John Kerry, he speaks French, too."

The next and third Republican primary contest will be held in South Carolina, on January 21.

Odd Bodkins, AKA Dan ÓNéill, himself not averse to stretching the limits of the imagination, all in interest of artistic endeavours let it be said, interviews presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.

Hugh Daniel O'Neill

Thirty years ago Hugh Daniel O’Neill was described as, “an innovator, a creator and a professional troublemaker” in a Forward to a collection of Odd Bodkins.

For seven years his Odd Bodkins cartoons ran daily in The San Francisco Chronicle and in 350 other newspapers throughout the world. At its peak, the strip had a readership of fifty million.

When he was hired at age 21 —the youngest cartoonist ever hired by a national syndicate— he was given three simple rules: no religion, no politics and no sex in the strip. He did his best to comply — he kept sex out of Odd Bodkins.
